It is not safe for pregnant women to use the many over the counter products to treat their acne problem. This is because they have ingredients that can be dangerous to the baby. Even if the product is said to be safe, they usually have harsh chemicals which can also irritate the sensitive skin.

The best thing to do is to wash the face using a mild, anti-bacterial soap or hand wash. This will get rid of bacteria, and also prevent its growth. Make it a point to wash your hands before and after you wash your face.

It is not advisable to use face scrubs when pregnant as your skin becomes very sensitive in pregnancy. This scrub will only cause damage to the skin; a better alternative is to use washes having exfoliating granules in them.

Try natural face packs

You could try using natural face packs created with fuller’s earth, water and honey. Apply on both your face and neck and wash off only after it dries up and cracks. This is when you can wash it off using cold water.

Try making an egg mask with garlic and lemon juice. If you have oily skin, use only the whites, if you have dry or sensitive skin, use only the yolk and if you have combination skin, use the entire egg. Spread the mask on your face, and after drying, wash off using a cleanser.

Though a pregnant woman develops cravings for sweets and fried foods, you have to avoid this as it only aggravates your acne problem. Instead, follow a healthy diet that helps in the promotion of skin renewal and growth.

Improve your diet

This means you have to include more fruits and vegetables in your diet, and avoid fast food, coffee, tea and sodas. Your dairy intake has to be increased while you keep your body and skin well hydrated at all times.

If you have no complications or problems in pregnancy, you can also do simple workouts, walking, jogging and light exercise to help increase your blood circulation. With exercise, you can reduce acne by eliminating the toxins in your body through perspiration.

Use natural skin care products

It is better to avoid using makeup when pregnant; and if you do have to use it, make sure you clean your face well before sleeping. The best thing you could do to remove makeup is to soak a cotton ball in milk as it does not damage your skin.

If all this does not help stop your acne problem, you could use natural skin care products to treat your problem. They are more expensive then other remedies; so use it only if you can afford it. If you plan to use any topical cream or lotion on your skin, use it only after consulting your doctor.
