One of the many forms of acne is cystic acne, which is also called acne vulgaris. Acne cysts are usually confused for papules, are usually larger than papules, painful, inflamed, and are usually filled with pus.

People suffering from cystic acne are usually tempted to squeeze these pimples. However, this is something that is not recommended at all. By squeezing it, you only end up in creating a much worse infection, which in turn can be rather painful. In addition to this, the acne attack tends to last longer when squeezed.

This is why the first thing to do control cystic acne is to prevent it. However, there are some forms of cystic acne which are not preventable because of various reasons. If acne runs in the family, a person may suffer from cystic acne because of genetics.

Adolescence can lead to acne attacks

It is during adolescence that the body tends to produce more androgens, which in turn helps in the stimulation of oil production. This oil can clog pores and lead to acne. In addition to this, the menstrual cycle and birth control pills leads to hormonal changes and aggravates acne.

Besides these unpreventable causes for cystic acne, there are many preventable causes of cystic acne. Though stress is not basically a cause for cystic acne, physical and emotional stress can aggravate acne breakouts. It is essential to keep your skin clean to prevent cystic acne. However at times, excessive cleaning and the use of harsh chemicals can aggravate acne breakouts.

Oily skin care products and greasy cosmetics can clog skin pores and oil ducts to form acne. As there are many medications that can cause cystic acne, it is important to read about the medication and use something else if it can aggravate an acne attack.

    Never squeeze pimples

Like any form of acne, squeezing pimples can lead to bacteria entering the skin to worsen acne. It can also lead to scars, which are usually permanent. Diet too is a factor for cystic acne; so follow a healthy diet with less oil and spices to control and prevent acne.

There is no definite cure for cystic acne; there are instead various methods you can try out. If you have realized, or know of triggers that lead to your acne outbreak, you have to avoid these triggers to control cystic acne.

If you still suffer from an attack of cystic acne, you have to consider using some medication. First, try with some mild cleanser and benzoyl peroxide cream, which should be applied once or twice a day.
