It is common for most of us to ignore a few red pimples and spots on our chest or body as we think nothing of them and continue with our lives. But these could be early signs of chest acne, also known as body acne which can have far-reaching consequences if not treated on time. Chest acne can be varied in appearance ranging from some small pimples to weeping pustules, black or whiteheads or even cysts. While the mild form of chest acne does not cause too much pain or discomfort, when it gets severe, it can lead to severe forms of skin infection, even bleeding and long-term scarring.

But the burning question that could be cropping up in your mind is who are most prone to get chest acne? Unfortunately, chest acne can attack anyone between 11 and 40 years of age. The reason why it affects some people and not everyone is still not known but the traits are most probably hereditary and people with excessive

sweating tendency or oily skin are more likely to get affected by chest acne than others. The developmental pattern of chest acne is more or less like regular acne. While the sebum and dead skin cells are regularly wiped out by bathing and body cleansing but when the glands producing sebum are hyperactive then there is chance of acne development. When the skin pores are blocked by excess sebum and dead skin cells, it becomes a good breeding ground of a particular type of bacteria called Propionibacterium acnes. When this type of bacteria settles on the skin, it causes infection to spread and develops into pimples or acne which is usually red bumps which are inflamed.

Chest or body acne is easier to be treated when it is in the initial stages. There are several options of treating chest acne and you could choose any one depending on the severity of the condition. Since there is no true cure for acne, it would be overstating if one said that this particular therapy is best for chest acne. So long as the root cause for the acne is not known, we would never be able to eradicate it completely. Whatever treatment is available in the market would merely treat the symptoms, but once the symptoms are brought under control, you can get ample relief from acne conditions.

In case you have chest acne, the first thing you ought to do is not to pop the pimples or tamper with the cysts. You would not only help the infection to spread, you could even cause indelible scars to appear. Handle the chest acne as gently as possible and do not fiddle with them with your hands. Whenever you are going to wash the area, use anti-bacterial soap and repeat the process as per your doctors' advice. The skin should be dried very gently and then follow it by applying antibacterial cream or lotion. The affected areas should be washed at least twice daily. When you buy special acne treatment products make sure that it contains benzoyl peroxide, an effective oxidizer that destroys the P. acnes bacteria and helps reduce the redness and swelling.
