Check your diet to treat acne
It might seem news to any acne sufferer that there are many types of food which help in triggering acne problems and can aggravate it further. What you eat would thus be an important factor when you are trying to treat acne. The truth of the matter is that certain types of food interferes with the hormonal balance in the body, which in turn gets reflected on the skin. Even dermatologists agree that there are some foods which if controlled can contribute substantially in the treatment and relief from acne. The foods mentioned below have been proved to worsen the existing acne and thus to be avoided if you are undergoing acne treatment:

It might seem news to any acne sufferer that there are many types of food which help in triggering acne problems and can aggravate it further. What you eat would thus be an important factor when you are trying to treat acne. The truth of the matter is that certain types of food interferes with the hormonal balance in the body, which in turn gets reflected on the skin. Even dermatologists agree that there are some foods which if controlled can contribute substantially in the treatment and relief from acne. The foods mentioned below have been proved to worsen the existing acne and thus to be avoided if you are undergoing acne treatment:

  • Milk and other diary products: Milk, cheese and several other diary products carry a particular type of sex hormone called bovine IGF-1 where the IGF stands for insulin-like growth factor. While this hormone is effective as a growth catalyst for children, in adults it has an anabolic effect. In fact every organ of our body like lungs, muscles, bones, nerves, liver, kidneys gets affected by this hormone. Incidentally, hormones have a direct role in acne development and this is the reason milk and several diary products help it to get aggravated.
  • Carbohydrates and foods with high Glycemic Index (GI): I has also been proved scientifically that foods which are rich in carbohydrates and glycemic foods help in worsening acne situations and can be a catalyst for its intensity. These foods are refined sugars, processed foods and white bread. The logic here is that when carbohydrate containing foods are digested in creates a heavy load of glucose content in the blood, which gets converted into fat and puts the load on to the sebaceous glands to secrete more oil.
  • Chocolate: According to the American Medical Association, reasonable and moderate consumption of chocolate does not contribute to the development or worsening of acne conditions.
  • High protein and low glycemic foods: In an Australian study done in 2006, it has been seen that a diet rich in protein and low in glycemic content can reduce acne by about 50% within a time span of 12 weeks.

As is evident from the above, if you can fine tune your eating habits and make some changes in your consumption pattern, you can not only get relief from acne but can help in the overall acne treatment process.
